Things to do:
Ariel's Narrative...After Kim finished taking the attendance, and Rod giving us a few announcements, we then went on to the narrative portion. Ariel went first. As you can see in the picture to the right, he is holding a Roscoe's Chicken Waffles hat-- representing SoCal. (He's got me craving for some!) He's full Filipino, born and raised in the Orange County. He moved to Daly City to attend San Francisco State with English as his major. However, things didn't go as planned and proceeded to go to Skyline College as a Communications major. If he had to pick between living in NorCal vs. SoCal, he would definitely pick NorCal because it helped him find himself, as a person and a Filipino-American. Living in NorCal was more effective because there wasn't a lot of Filipino culture being exposed to him. Ariel, you definitely should join PEP as Rod, and Kim suggested. There was more to it, but since I, Char, was nervous and was paying attention to what she was going to sat. Haha Char's Narrative...Char went second. She brought in a match box with a spider inside because it reminded her of her childhood. She was born and raised in Agoo, La union, Philippines. She came to U.S. when she was 8 years old. Her childhood years were spent in the motherland and she looooved it! One of the games she would play with was spider fighting. She would find and collect spiders and put them into used, empty match boxes. The inside of the match box depended on the person. They can decorate it and make it a little more "homey" for the spiders. She would get together with her friends and have their spiders fight. Pretty entertaining eh? It wasn't a game that a lot of girls played with because usually girls are scared of spiders-- but not char! She hung out with a lot of her guy friends. A lot of people assumed she was a tomboy. The other reason spider fighting was very common was because of gambling reasons. People would bet money on the spider they think would win. It's very similar to cockfighting, or rooster fighting. There was a lot of that going on. It's nice to know that she had a childhood before the electronics, technology came about because now a days a lot of kids are stuck inside playing their ipads, and what not. Moral of the story: if you're a kid, go outside and play! Get dirty and stinky! Superstitions!
