Bruno's NarrativeOn Tuesday I presented a personal narrative. Rod almost forgot about my presentation and I thought I didn't have go. But ultimately he remembered and I presented my Santo Nino. I explained how there was a parade every year for the Santo Nino. During the parade my family is gathered up and we participate on the march around the church. I then described how the parade for the Santo Nino brings my family together which is the reason why I wanted to present it. Being Rich vs Being WealthyThe discussion of rich vs wealthy came from the question "is the Philippines poor"? Now in class we discussed that economically that the Philippines was poor. As for being wealthy we said that it was wealthy in land. Now after giving examples of what being rich and wealthy is, Rod gave us some perspective. He told us you could be rich in money, love, culture, and many other things. As for wealth it's an abundance of capitol (power). After he gave us some insight he showed us a video of Chris Rock where he perfectly explains the difference between the two. Divide and ConquerThe tactic of divide and conquer has been used from generation to generation. The method can be explained in three simple words: separate, eliminate and confine. When the Spanish colonized the Philippines, they already had an advantage. Many of the Filipinos were separated in different groups based on there location. After separation, the Filipinos were then forced to be stripped of there culture. Many Filipinos were forced to give up there native beliefs and convert to Christianity. And lastly they were confined to the new enforced ideas. Religion played an essential role. Many Filipinos were given new names. There everyday lives revolved around Christianity and the influence of the Spanish. The Three G's of Colonialism ( "Ain't Nothin' but a G thang")The Spanish occupation of the Philippines was driven by the Spanish Empire desire for more wealth, power, and spread of religion. The term we learned was the Three G's (" God, Gold, Glory") , the explorer Ferdinand Magellan led the first Spanish voyage to the Philippines motivated by the Three G's.
