Hi, My name is Anriella Dobashi. My major is Ethnic Studies in the interest of the Kababayan community at Skyline College. I dream to pursue to teach others to be aware of their indigenous people and how we got here in America today. The Buranguy I am in is called "Datu Puti". Our motto is "Pag binato ka ng bato, batohin mo ng tinapy," which roughly translates to "If someone throws a rock at you, throw bread back." Also to us we believe even if someone is giving us negative energy we should never let that break us. We embrace positive vibes towards one another and make sure we help build one another to achieve our goals. We are one big family, through thick and thin.

My name is Ariel Buendia. I'm in my second year at skyline college pursuing a degree in psychology, more specifically forensic psychology. I hold out hope for the possibility of being able to make a significant, good change in the world, even on the smallest scale. I am a part of the Barangay Datu Puti. Our motto is "Pag binato ka ng bato, batohin mo ng tinapy," which roughly translates to "If someone throws a rock at you, throw bread back." To us this meant that if someone keeps throwing bad things your way, don't stoop to their level and continue to give them bad things back, remember to see the good in others and try to kill them with kindness. To me, the word community has a lot of meanings. I see it as a group of people who have similar likes and/or dislikes that allow them to come together, whether it be physical or not. My name is Ezekiel John Mercado Saldajeno, but most people call me "Eze" to make things a bit easier. My name comes from the Bible and some Spanish words that (usually) resembled the type of work my ancestors did. I am currently in my 3rd semester in Skyline College, taking general education required for an engineering courses (undecided on what field), and some relaxing or fun classes. I play and listen to a lot of music, meaning I like all of the genres. The Barangay I am involved in is called "Datu Puti." Our motto is "Pag binato ka ng bato, batohin mo ng tinapy," translating to "if somebody throws you a rock, throw bread back." Rock would symbolize hardships or pain, and bread symbolizing all the good things in life. The best way to avenge yourself is to do better in life, and treat your enemy as if he/she is a friend. Our motto is a sign of strength, explaining our logo with a flexed arm. To me, a community is a group of people, including friends and family, who share the will to keep a sense of Kapwa alive.
I am Joshua Laurente and I am part of the Barangay called "Datu Puti." The motto of our Barangay is "When someone thows bricks at you, you throw bread back" except it's supposed to be in tagalog. I am a Christian and I also help out at my church by being one of the youth leaders there. I was born in a Christian family but didn't become a Christian until the age of 19. Currently at Skyline, I am undecided in terms of my major and am on my fourth semester here. Even though I don't know my major, I'm leaning towards something that involves math or computers. I really like clothes but I don't have enough money to by really nice clothing so I try to make do with what I have. The Kababayan program was shown to me by my cousin who also attended the program and that's what got me interested in it. In my opinion, the definition of community is when a group of people come together in a way where they strive to meet a goal or have a common interest in something.
